			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p style="text-align: justify;">Types of keywords for SEO/SEM purposes</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">In previous articles I have discussed that keywords are the foundation of attracting visitors to a website. In order to attract visitors you must know what parties who would be interested in your product or service are typing into a search engine. Only in very rare cases does a potentially interested party type in the exact name of a business or organization. If they know the name, they probably already have the web address.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">So you must anticipate what a potentially interested party might type in when searching for an organization like the one being promoted by the website in question. You must also consider all of the possible variations, misspellings, and what traffic volume is associated with the keywords. You should probably also consider how much competition there is for particular keywords.<span id="more-519"></span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">All of the major search engines provide pretty good keyword research tools, and there are a number of very good premium keyword research tools.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">When I am doing keyword research for an organization, one of the first things I like to do is to examine the keywords being used by organizations in the same niche. This gives a very good starter list of keywords to examine for traffic volumes and competition.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">When doing keyword research you should also be careful to choose the right type of keywords to optimize your site for.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">I consider that there are three basic types of keywords.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">1.	Browsing keywords<br />
2.	Comparison keywords<br />
3.	Buying keywords</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">I hope that it is obvious that the type of keyword that you want focus on if possible are Buying keywords.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Examples are probably in order. If someone types &#8220;photography&#8221; as their search phrase, I would consider that a Browsing keyword. Typing in &#8220;digital camera&#8221; would fall into Comparison keywords category. Finally a search phrase like &#8220;Olympus Pen E-PL1 12.3 MP&#8221; would definitely qualify as a Buying keyword. I hope you can see the differences. We may find buyers in the Browsing and Comparison keywords categories but they will be a much smaller percentage and our conversion rates will suffer.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">That does not mean that you should never try to get ranked for Browsing and Comparison keywords. You must simply be aware that your conversions will be lower and that these should not be your initial focus.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">I get the following question from many of my customers: &#8220;How many keywords should I try to get ranked for?&#8221; The only answer I can give them is, stop expanding your keywords when you wish to stop getting new customers.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Of course, when starting with a new customer, you cannot efficiently try to rank for hundreds of keywords at once. So I sit down with my customer after having done some keyword research and we try to find a list of keywords which have adequate search volumes and relatively low competition. These are the first keywords to try to rank for. Ideally, we want to find keywords which are closely aligned with the customers niche as well. From this initial list of keywords, also select a domain name. Having a good Buying keyword in your domain name will help the site rank for that keyword instantly.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">After achieving results with a few keywords, go back to the list and expand the keywords associated with the site. When results are achieved, repeat the process. If you can show good results with one or two new Buying keywords each month, in very short order you will see increased traffic to your website. You can then focus more on converting visitors to customers. i will address that in another article.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">35. Submitting to a 1,000 Web  Directories doesn&#8217;t work. Search and find those directories with a good  page rank for their inner pages. Take time to submit to these.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">37. Google has  about 60% of the search engine market, Yahoo 20% and MSN 10%. Use those  percentages to determine the amount of time you spend optimising for  each big search engine.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">38. Download the Google Toolbar and check  the PageRank of the sites that you would want to do a link exchange  with. Try to only link with sites having a link pages of PR 3 or more.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">39.  It would appear as I talk to the un-initiated that Google&#8217;s Page Rank  is their ultimate aim. Once they get a Google Page Rank they sit back  and watch the traffic flow in. This is not the case.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">48. Create a Technorati  account and &#8220;claim&#8221; your blog.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">50. Conduct a survey. This is an excellent way  to generate offline publicity.</p>

<li> &#8220;Inanchor:&#8221; / &#8220;allinanchor:&#8221; In trying to find out what backlinks any particular page, there are several options. Google will not show all backlit, but the use of this label can help determine who is using the search keyword in the anchor text of backlinks. This can be used to find anchor both its own website through text and how does competition with the anchor text.</li>
<li> &#8220;Intext:&#8221; / allintext: &#8220;If you are trying to determine which pages in your search keywords in the page content more effectively, this is your brand. The results shown here are pages that use more words key objective in its content visible.</li>

Blogger is a great way to build relationships with customers, prospects and employees. Here are my tips for creating a better business blog today.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">1. Make sure that you choose the relevant blog title. People and search engines need to know what your business is about now. You can have a clever pun for a title, but if you didn’t the relevant blog title it will make search engine be confuses and harm their SEO efforts.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">2. Look for blogs in your field of ideas about what other people are doing and what kind of competition that is against. Look where the bar is set and his superior.<span id="more-510"></span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">3. Think of a large group of ideas and start writing up the titles. You can create a lot of new posts with titles of their ideas and save them to return later.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">4. Remember to keep your profile information and pop in a beautiful photo &#8211; blog readers like to see that the boy is behind everything that wisdom</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Use SSL of Google instead of regular Google</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><a href="https://www.google.com/" target="_blank">Google SSL</a> is the same as the regular Google.com, except that all data sent between the browser and Google are encrypted via SSL connection (https in the note of the URL). As of this writing, Google does not have the custom wallpaper SSL.</p>

<p>With the increasing influence and change of marketing focus to  Internet, we have the usual unsavoury characters arriving on the scene.  Where there is money, there is a scam. SMEs are particularly vulnerable  to this as most do not have the resources, the time or the knowledge to  distinguish a genuine SEO company from the fraudsters.</p>
<p>Let us  start at the beginning and explain to the uninitiated what SEO (Search  Engine Optimisation) is. Search Engines use a technology known as  &#8217;spiders&#8217; to seek out websites, making a record of the website content  and then using their unique algorithm to judge whether or not the  content of the website is relevant to the search phrase requested by a  web user. Each search engine uses a different algorithm, putting  different emphasis and weighting on different factors such as content,  word density, meta-tags, usability, together with a range of qualitative  and quantitative measurement matrices.</p>
<p>Search Engine Optimisation  is a method which improves the visibility of a website within the  results pages of free search tools such as Google, Yahoo!, MSN, AOL and  so on, by strict compliance to the search engine&#8217;s algorithm. SEO  actions should enhance the relevance of your website for your chosen  keywords/keyphrases, improve usability and therefore increase the  relevant traffic to your website.<span id="more-501"></span></p>
<p>Here are the telltale signs that  should send the alarm bells ringing in your head and therefore avoid  falling for one of the many scams that is plaguing SEO industry.</p>
<p><strong>SEO  Company Trick number 1. </strong></p>
<p><em><span style="text-decoration: underline;">&#8216;We have a last  dedicated (reserved) slot left on the 1st page of Google!&#8217; </span></em></p>
<p>Don&#8217;t  just take my word for it; here is what Google says on their website on  this claim:</p>
<p><em>&#8221; Google never sells better ranking in our search  results&#8230;Some SEOs will promise to rank you highly in search engines,  but place you in the advertising section rather than in the search  results. A few SEOs will even change their bid prices in real time to  create the illusion that they &#8220;control&#8221; other search engines and can  place themselves in the slot of their choice&#8230;be sure to ask any SEO  you&#8217;re considering which fees go toward permanent inclusion and which  apply toward temporary advertising.</em></p>
<p>Google&#8217;s own website  tells you loud and clear that there are no reserved places for any  organisation on their first page. First page organic slot is earned by  satisfying the complex algorithm that Google uses to judge whether your  website content is the most relevant to the search term. There is no  magic wand to achieve this other than being relevant!</p>
<p>The second  opportunity for you to be on the first page is presented by  Pay-per-Click (PPC). Google&#8217;s paid results appear on the right &amp; top  of the page, which are clearly marked as &#8220;Sponsored Links&#8221;. For those  who are not familiar with how PPC works, let me demystify it. The  highest bidder gets on the top of the page, with the 2nd highest on the  2nd place and so on. To take part in this live auction you have to have  an AdWord account, specify the terms you want to bid, and then set the  maximum bid you are willing to pay for a click. Google does the rest for  you. You can set daily budget for your bidding but in essence you are  signing a blank cheque to Google.</p>
<p>So part of this plan is the  unscrupulous SEO Company will take a monthly fee from you for so the  called &#8216;management&#8217; of your PPC. They take a cut from the fees paid to  Google, so in effect not all the money you pay for your PPC ends up  being used for advertising as a percentage of your money goes on feeding  the SEO Company&#8217;s bank account!</p>
<p>Let us just work this out by some  simple mathematics and see how much this can really cost you. Let&#8217;s say  you are targeting 5 keywords/keyphrases with each averaging €1-€1.50  per click. Now assume that you have picked 5 popular keyphrases (why  would you pick unpopular ones?!), which each generate 1000 hits per  week, with your click conversion ratio of 3% giving you 150 clicks per  day. This means minimum of 600 clicks per month, translating to a bill  of €600-€900 per month (gulp!). That is a whopping €7,200 or €10,800 per  annum at the top end. No wonder Google has announced record profits!  Now do you see how the offer of getting you on their &#8216;allocated&#8217; slot  can cost you well over their claimed €150 per month? Remember this is  before they take their 30% cut from your expenditure!</p>
<p><strong>SEO  Company Trick number 2 </strong></p>
<p><em><span style="text-decoration: underline;">&#8216;We are a Google Reseller  and have preferential slot for our clients that guarantees your page 1  placement&#8217;.</span></em></p>
<p>Here is a direct quotation from Google&#8217;s  Public website:</p>
<p><em>&#8220;Beware of SEOs that claim to guarantee  rankings, allege a &#8220;special relationship&#8221; with Google, or advertise a  &#8220;priority submit&#8221; to Google.&#8221;</em></p>
<p>This is as clear as a day and  is directly from Google telling you there are no &#8216;preferential&#8217; or  &#8217;special relationships&#8217; with any company. Your website appears on the  organic search on its merit or you will pay to appear on PPC. There is  no 3rd way.</p>
<p><strong>SEO Company Trick number 3 </strong></p>
<p><em><span style="text-decoration: underline;">&#8216;We  can guarantee your first page appearance&#8217;</span></em></p>
<p>Once again the  answer is the wind my friend, or should I say Google website:</p>
<p><em>&#8220;No  one can guarantee a #1 ranking on Google. Beware of SEOs that claim to  guarantee rankings, allege a &#8220;special relationship&#8221; with Google, or  advertise a &#8220;priority submit&#8221; to Google. There is no priority submit for  Google. In fact, the only way to submit a site to Google directly is  through our Add URL page or by submitting a Sitemap and you can do this  yourself at no cost whatsoever.&#8221;</em></p>
<p>There is no explanation  necessary here, so thank you Google for saving my typing fingers!</p>
<p><strong>SEO  Company Trick number 4 </strong></p>
<p><em><span style="text-decoration: underline;">&#8216;Our methods are secret  and we do not tell anyone how we do our job&#8217;</span></em></p>
<p>Well there  may be some truth in that but lets face it, if they cannot explain to  you what they are doing and why they are doing it, you should not allow  anyone near your website. We can accept that as a commercial business a  SEO Company can not be expected to disclose to the client exactly what  you are going to do. This sounds like free consultancy to most of us,  but they can at least give a broad-brush explanation such as the areas  they will look at, the areas they will rewrite, the general approach  they take in addressing your website issues, etc. As Google rightly  advises:</p>
<p><em>&#8220;Ultimately, you are responsible for the actions of  any companies you hire, so it&#8217;s best to be sure you know exactly how  they intend to &#8220;help&#8221; you. If an SEO has FTP access to your server, they  should be willing to explain all the changes they are making to your  site.&#8221;</em></p>
<p>Couldn&#8217;t put it better myself! This is your website,  your company&#8217;s image and your company&#8217;s reputation. You have a god-given  right to know what is going on your website!</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p style="text-align: justify;">Do you avoid Google Adwords mistakes? <a href="https://adwords.google.com/" target="_blank">Google AdWords</a> has been a major form of online marketing since 2000 and has only  increased in use by businesses and individuals. In 2008 Google’s total  advertising revenues through AdWords were $21 billion, and it’s still  growing.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">This increase in use by many users means that to succeed at use of  AdWords requires more stringent use of it. Knowing what not to do is  just as important as knowing how to use it properly. Being careful with  AdWords is worthwhile, to keep a solid ROI when using this tool.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">There are some elements of AdWords to be cautious with – here are 6  mistakes you should avoid making when using Google’s PPC tool:<span id="more-497"></span></p>
<h3 style="text-align: justify;"><strong>1. Create only one ad group for various keywords</strong></h3>
<p style="text-align: justify;">It’s very tempting to just put all your keywords into one campaign  and one ad group. However, this will only keep it difficult to target  your keywords with the ads you use, since you’ll be trying to target  multiple variations on keywords.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The best thing to do is create separate ad groups for each set of  keywords. This way you can make unique ads that fit the keywords well,  and stay relevant. <strong> </strong></p>
<h3 style="text-align: justify;"><strong>2. Make only one ad for your ad groups</strong></h3>
<p style="text-align: justify;">You need to have an ad in place to communicate with the people  searching for your keywords. However, having only one means you will  never know for sure if it can be improved upon.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">A better approach is to create at least two ads, this way you can see  which ad performs better, keep it, and then revise the other ad. This  is called “split testing” and is commonly used by professional AdWords  users. <strong> </strong></p>
<h3 style="text-align: justify;"><strong>3. Leave all networks active for your campaigns</strong></h3>
<p style="text-align: justify;">By default AdWords uses both a search network and a content network.  However, leaving the content network active can make it more difficult  to focus on pure keyword marketing through the search engines. Google is  improving this, but even now it’s better to unselect the Content  Network inside your <strong>Campaign Settings.</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The Content Network is the placing of ads on websites instead of in  the search results, and is a different advertising approach. If this is  something that you want to do in addition to the Search Network, it’s  best to create a separate campaign for the Content Network. This way you  can adjust your keywords to be much more targeted for this style of  advertising, and you can track each more easily. <strong> </strong></p>
<h3 style="text-align: justify;"><strong>4. Use only broad match keywords</strong></h3>
<p style="text-align: justify;">When entering keywords into AdWords, the default listing for all  keywords is “broad match”. To get more specific, place double quotes  around your keywords to get “phrase match” (which will match all  keywords that contain that phrase) and double square brackets to get  “exact match” (which will match only searches that contain that exact  keyword phrase, nothing more, nothing less).</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">When you use only broad match, your ads will show to a much broader  range of keywords, in many cases keywords you would not specifically  choose to advertise for. By using phrase and exact match, you can have  much tighter control over what keywords will prompt your ad to show. <strong> </strong></p>
<h3 style="text-align: justify;"><strong>5. Never use negative keywords</strong></h3>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Even though most AdWords users have heard of negative keywords, many  don’t realize the power they contain. By using the negative keyword  properly you can reduce your expenses on keywords you’re not targeting  to a very large degree.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">To use it, put a hyphen in front of any keyword you do not want your  ad to show. This can also work with phrase and exact match keywords. For  example: <em>-keyword, -”two keywords”, </em>and<em> -[exact keyword]</em> will all work to ensure that those particular keywords will never bring  up your ad.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Often a word such as “free” will get a large amount of traffic that  is not converting, and can cause a lot of unnecessary expenditure. By  placing it as a negative keyword you can cut a lot of cost. <strong> </strong></p>
<h3 style="text-align: justify;"><strong>6. Don’t track conversions</strong></h3>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Conversion tracking is a way to optimize your AdWords campaigns  heavily. For example, if you want to keep the keywords that bring in the  most opt-ins for your site, set up conversion tracking for your opt-in,  to track how many people land on the “thank you for signing up” page.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">When you do this you’ll be able to see specifically which keywords  are bringing these conversions, and you’ll be able to drop keywords that  don’t convert and expand on keywords that do. Not doing conversion  tracking means you will never know which of your keywords are bringing  the best results.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Making any of these Adwords mistakes can often cause a heavy loss of  advertising expenses or an inability to improve well upon your PPC  campaigns. Being careful about not making these mistakes can help  improve your AdWords campaign (or campaigns), and it will increase  conversions and make your spending more effective.</p>
